This Privacy Policy describes how Soliton Consulting ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with the Charbel mobile application ("the App"). Charbel is a Maronite Christian prayer and meditation app that provides guided meditations, prayers, chat-based spiritual guidance, and coffee reading features.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. You may also sign in using Apple Sign-In, in which case Apple provides us with a user identifier and, optionally, your email address.
- Chat Messages: When you use the "Chat with Charbel" feature, we collect the messages you send and the AI-generated responses. These are stored to provide you with conversation history.
- Coffee Reading Images: When you use the coffee reading feature, you provide photos of coffee grounds. These images are processed by our AI service to generate your reading. Images are not permanently stored on our servers.
- Prayer Preferences: During onboarding and through your use of the App, we collect your prayer goals, experience level, and content preferences to personalize your experience.
- Favorites and Listening History: We record which meditations you favorite and listen to in order to provide personalized recommendations.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the App, including features used, content accessed, session duration, and frequency of use.
- Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.
- Analytics Data: With your consent (via the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt), we collect analytics data through the Facebook SDK to understand how users find and use our App.
1.3 Subscription Information
Charbel Premium is available as a monthly ($7.99/month) or annual ($69.99/year) auto-renewable subscription, with a 3-day free trial for new subscribers. Subscription purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive information about your subscription status (active, expired, trial) through RevenueCat, our subscription management service. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and maintain the App: Deliver meditations, prayers, chat-based spiritual guidance, and coffee readings.
- Personalize your experience: Recommend content based on your preferences, listening history, and prayer goals.
- Process your subscription: Manage your premium subscription, enforce usage limits, and provide access to premium features.
- Improve the App: Analyze usage patterns to develop new features, fix bugs, and improve existing functionality.
- Communicate with you: Respond to your support requests and send important service-related notices.
- Ensure security: Protect against fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
3. AI-Powered Features
The App uses artificial intelligence (powered by Anthropic's Claude) to provide two features:
- Chat with Charbel: An AI spiritual guide that draws from Maronite Catholic tradition. Your messages are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic does not use your data to train its models.
- Coffee Reading: An AI-powered interpretation of coffee ground images based on Lebanese tasseography traditions. Your photos are sent to Anthropic's API for analysis and are not retained after processing.
We do not use your personal data to train AI models.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers:
- Supabase: Database hosting and authentication (data stored in the EU).
- Anthropic: AI processing for chat and coffee reading features.
- RevenueCat: Subscription management and purchase verification.
- Meta (Facebook): Analytics and advertising measurement (with your consent).
- Apple: Authentication (Sign in with Apple) and payment processing.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
5. Data Retention
- Account Data: Retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.
- Chat Messages: Retained to provide conversation history. Deleted when you delete your account.
- Coffee Reading Images: Processed in real-time and not permanently stored on our servers.
- Usage Data: Aggregated usage data may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data and account. To delete your account, go to Profile > Contact Support or email support@charbel.app with the subject "Delete Account."
- Portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your data.
- Objection: Object to certain processing of your data.
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for tracking at any time through your iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

7. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including France (EU), the United States, and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for any international transfers of personal data in compliance with applicable data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
10. Tracking and Advertising
On iOS, we request your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework before collecting any data for advertising purposes. You can change your tracking preference at any time in your device settings.
If you consent to tracking, we use the Facebook SDK to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns and understand how users discover the App.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy within the App and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
